Strider News--Ian Cameron's running season was successful!
The Striders received a running update from Dave Cameron regarding son, Ian on Oct 17th: "Ian's season effectively ends on Thursday. His key race was the Mid-Suburban League race last Saturday - a 3-mile effort at Busse Woods with a couple hundred other Freshmen and Sophomores from 12 schools in the Northwest suburbs.
I'm pleased to say I've watched him improve from - well... this summer he ran about a 6:15 mile at the 4th of July track meet; and around 21:00 for the 3-mile XC at Riis - fending off Mr. Fleischhacker in a pitched battle. Fast forward a couple of months, with some high school training behind him and...
His fastest mile is now 5:12. (for the record, I could never do that, my all-time best was 5:18). And.. at Busse Woods, he finished 27th overall; top freshman for Palatine; 10th freshman in the race. He was Palatine's #5 runner, and picked off 6 guys in the last 400 to move the team from 3rd to 2nd. Finishing time was 17:13. (I could never do that either...)
