2nd Annual Park Ridge XC Ski Sprints
Who needs snow? For that matter who needs more than

eager skiers to host a nordic ski race?
The 2nd Annual Park Ridge XC Ski Fun Sprints took place despite recent warm weather, drizzle and a course that was reduced to an icy slush layer barely providing enough slide between expanding spots of mud & grass.
Said race director / promoter Peter Block, "We have just enough snow to stage our race. This course will be unskiable later today."
Turns out he was correct, when more warm rain fell throughout the afternoon.
Four skiers took part in the action with "skate style" participants Peter Block & Bill Thom -and- "classic style" participants Gary Martin & Tina Chambers. The distance was two miles over a

lap loop course including "snow bridges" constructed at sidewalk crossings.
Temperatures were 38°F when the race began at 10:15 am. An exciting mad dash to the finish line for 3rd place, complete with wipe-outs and recovery scrambling, saw our classical style skiers officially tie in Bronze Medal position.
