|The Ice Age Trail 50 is one of the oldest, continuously running ultras in the United States. |
Staged and staffed entirely by volunteers and sponsored by the Badgerland Striders, a local nonprofit running organization, the event includes three distance races: 50-mile, 50k and Half Marathon. The 50-mile and 50K courses follow the Ice Age National Scenic Trail through Wisconsin's Southern Kettle Moraine Forest. The trails are mostly wooded, passing through evergreen and deciduous forests, marshes and prairies and exposing runners to the geologic remnants of the last Ice Age 10,000 years ago. The terrain varies from wide, rolling trails to twisting, root and rock-covered single track. The Half Marathon is run on mostly wooded cross country ski trails.
With plentiful aid stations, generous course markings and excellent volunteer support, the Ice Age 50 offers a great trail running experience for both first time and veteran ultrarunners.
All runners registered for the 2020 race – which was postponed and ultimately cancelled due to the pandemic – have been automatically deferred to the 2021 race. For that reason, there will be no open registration for the 2021 races.
Registered runners who would like to defer their entries to 2022 can do so at no charge by notifying the Race Director at firstname.lastname@example.org by December 13, 2020.
In the unexpected event that the number of cancellations and deferrals exceeds estimates and openings become available in the 50 Mile and/or Half Marathon races, those spots will be offered to wait listed runners. There will be no wait list for the 50k, since that event is 30% over capacity and additional openings are extremely unlikely.
Runners who contacted the Race Director prior to the creation of the wait list will have top priority as openings become available.
If registration is reopened, it would be scheduled in late December 2021 or January 2022. Watch the IAT Facebook page or go to iceagetrail50.com for news and updates.
