The Ice Age Trail 50 is one of America’s “classic” ultramarathons.
Run mostly on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in southeastern Wisconsin, the course takes runners on a tour of the unique geologic features left by the last Ice Age 10,000 years ago. Evergreen and deciduous forests, natural prairies, ponds, marshes and kettles are all part of this diverse and beautiful landscape.
The terrain, which varies from flat and grassy double-track to rock and root covered single track, is challenging for even the most seasoned ultrarunners. Andy Jone's 50-mile course record (5:53:21) has been standing since 1988 (the women's course record [7:04:00] was set by Donna Perkins in 1995) and only one age division record has been broken in the past 10 years.
At the same time, with its plentiful aid stations, superior volunteer support and trail markings, the Ice Age 50 is a great introduction to trail running and the sport of ultrarunning.
We'll be celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2011, so register early to reserve your place in the race!
